Funeral Services
When family and friends lose a loved one, IMIEC can help with convening a respectful funeral. Center volunteers will perform Ghusl (ritual washing) and Kafan (special sheet wrapping) for the one who has passed away and will help through the process of burial by performing the required steps according to Islamic rites. A sensitive issue many are not aware of but must be known is that (unlike the common practice in the US) a Muslim must be buried in a cemetery for Muslims (which has its reasons and wisdom): this is an issue that is often difficult to communicate to those nearest and most emoti
However, two things must be kept in mind: (i) obeying God Almighty far exceeds anything else in blessings and comfort for both the one who has passed away and his/her nearest, and (ii) there is special land pre-purchase by a number of centers and allocated towards this very purpose at the King Memorial Gardens (8710 Dogwood Rd, Windsor Mill (Baltimore Country), MD 21244) that is quite close to many. We are also in the process of obtaining burial site(s) at this location, per our responsibility.
Cost-wise, there is an $1100 charge payable to our center for the burial site itself along with the different services, including performing ritual washing/wrapping, and the ability to use our center for holding a memorial (of this $750 is paid by IMIEC for purchase of burial site, and the rest, is a contribution to maintain our center). There is also a charge of ~$1150 payable directly to the King Memorial Gardens for the opening/closing of the cemetery and maintenance. Finally, the funeral home itself also must be contacted directly and paid separately for the arrangement of the various tasks including transportation. we recommend working with the March Funeral Home – West, given our very good past experience with them for an arrangement of ritual washing by our volunteers. Marriage:
The Imam Mahdi Islamic Education Center provides services to individuals who wish to marry under the rulings and etiquettes of Islam. A certificate of marriage will be provided by the IMIEC. Fees are optional, and it is suggested that contributions are made to special donation boxes at the center, with the amount determined by the couples themselves. The following documents are necessary:
1) Birth certificate (most preferably) or passport.
2) Agreement of the Guardian of the bride
3) In the case of a prior marriage, divorce documents are needed.
* At least one witness must be brought to the center.
